ToKoKo Manifesto
Read about our values and goals as a collective

- We are a grassroots organisation of international food lovers and activists open for all to participate.
- With lightness we aim to take on the heavy issue of sustainable food systems from a bottom-up perspective. Instead of wasteful mass production, we want seasonal, local, and healthy food to fight climate change and biodiversity loss. We invite urban citizens to reconnect to the source of their food.
- Food is political: what we eat, the way we eat, and how we produce our food defines who we are as a society, as a species. The change we strive for does not only address human wellbeing, but also that of the planet and of nonhuman animals. Destructive industrial farming pollutes air, waters and soils, while leading to the cruel exploitation and daily suffering of millions of sentient beings.
- Our public action mainly takes the form of collaborative events, such as workshops and cooking sessions. We believe in the power of food as a shared experience to create long-lasting bonds.
- Everything is already given: we work with what is there and transform it. The ingredients we cook with are food-saved, meaning rescued from being thrown away. Our protest is peaceful and constructive – we attempt to build upon existing structures.
- We have an educational inclination. Not only are we continuously learning and transmitting our collected knowledge, but we are also creating spaces for others to share their skills.
- Inclusion lies at the foreground of our mission. For change to be effective, it must actively include as many diverse people as possible; only with a variety of needs and wishes can we truly create a communal future.
- We represent a counter-trend to capitalism. Our non-hierarchical structure is not motivated by profit: all our events are donation-based, and our members are volunteers, contributing equally in decision-making.
- We are not alone, and do not wish to be special. We are part of a network of great initiatives that all work towards a radical change in the city. As a part of the Torhaus e.V., we are shaping the future of the Tempelhof Airport building, creating a public space for the citizens of Berlin.
- The collective is, for each of us, a way to develop our creativity and spread a feeling of hope. As we always keep a beginner’s mind, no idea is dismissed, and everything becomes possible.
